Virginia Beach & Nearby Cities
Your Licensed Electrician for Homes and Businesses in Virginia Beach and Nearby Cities
Castles Electrical is a locally owned electrical company based on S Lynnhaven Road in Virginia Beach, serving homeowners and businesses in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk, including the Virginia Beach waterfront neighborhoods of Great Neck, Bay Colony, Cape Henry, and Sandbridge. Wayne Castles started in the trade as an apprentice in 2001, trained through IBEW Local 80, and comes from a family of electricians going back to his father and grandfather. He founded Castles Electrical in 2012 to bring straightforward pricing and clean, code-compliant work to the area where he has lived his whole life.
When you call, you reach a real person, not a call center or an answering service. Our own electricians handle the work in-house, from a single burnt outlet to a whole-home panel upgrade, a Generac standby generator, or a Tesla Powerwall and Wall Connector install. Customers routinely tell us the same thing they tell Google: clear communication from the first phone call, work completed neatly and up to code, and a price quoted before the work starts that does not change when the job is done.
Whatever your situation, an aging panel your insurer flagged, a dead circuit, a hurricane-season generator, or an EV charger for a new car, one call gets you a licensed electrician who will look at it honestly and tell you what it actually needs.

02 — About the Owner
A Third-Generation Electrician Who Grew Up Here
Wayne Castles was raised in Virginia Beach and has lived here his whole life. Electrical work runs in the family: his father and grandfather were both electricians; his grandfather served as the business agent for IBEW Local 80; and Wayne came up through that same local, learning to do things right the first time and to redo them until they looked right. He apprenticed while in trade school in 2001 and founded Castles Electrical in 2012.
Today, Wayne runs the company with his wife, Heather, and a small team of electricians, so when you call you reach a real person who knows the work, not a call center. Over the years, the trade has changed enormously, from the arrival of smart panels, EV chargers, and residential battery backup to mandatory surge and arc-fault protection, and Castles Electrical has stayed certified and current through all of it. The goal has never changed: the highest-quality installation every time, cleanup after, and honest pricing.

When You Call Castles Electrical, Here Is What Actually Happens
Real People. Real Service. No Runaround.
We treat your home like our own and explain everything every step of the way.
You reach a real person
Your call is answered by a real person on our team during business hours, Monday through Friday, 7 to 10, and Saturday, 7 to 7, never a call center. We talk through what is going on and get you scheduled, often the same day, for urgent problems like a dead panel or a burning smell.
A licensed electrician assesses the work
For some jobs we can quote from clear photos you send us. When a closer look is needed, a licensed electrician comes out, looks at the actual conditions, and diagnoses the real problem rather than guessing over the phone. For installations such as generators, EV chargers, and panel upgrades, we evaluate your service capacity and load before quoting.
You get a plain-language explanation
We explain what we found and what we recommend in clear, accessible language, including what is required now, what can wait, and what you can skip. If something does not need to be done, we tell you so.
You get a written estimate with no surprises
Install estimates are free, and the price we quote is the price you pay. Our estimates are honored for 30 days, and there are no hidden fees added at the end of the job.
A certified in-house crew does the work
Our own licensed electricians perform the work in-house, pull the permits, run the conduit level and clean, label your panel, and clean up when the job is done. We do not hand your job to a subcontractor.
Real Customer Example | From a verified Google review (Jean I., December 2022)
Jean's insurance company told her the electrical panel had to be replaced or certified due to its age. Wayne came out on time, inspected the panel, and told her honestly that it looked great and was well done, no replacement needed. An easy chance to upsell a panel that Castles Electrical turned down because the work was not necessary.

The Difference
Castles Electrical vs. National Franchise Electricians
05 — Why Choose Castles Electrical
Seven Reasons Homeowners Choose Castles Electrical
Licenses and certifications held by the owner
Castles Electrical carries a Master Electrician and Alternative Energy license, a Class B Contractors license, NABCEP certification, Generac Authorized Dealer status, and Tesla Certified Installer status. These are held by Wayne, not rented through a franchise model. That combination is rare in this area. The Alternative Energy license and NABCEP certification are what legally allow Castles Electrical to install and interconnect battery storage, work that most local electricians cannot take on.
Honest recommendations, not fear sales
We tell you what the work actually needs, including when it needs less than you expected. If a panel is fine, we say so. If an outlet is the problem instead of the wall, we find that before anyone starts opening the drywall. Honesty is the most common theme in our reviews, and it is why customers come back for every project after the first.
Locally owned, with the work kept in-house
Owned and run by Wayne and Heather Castles, we complete every job with our own licensed electricians. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor, so the quality and the accountability stay with the name on the truck. Chain electricians route your call through a dispatcher and send whoever happens to be available. With us, you deal with a small, accountable team from the first phone call to the final walkthrough, whether you hire us as your residential electrician or as the electrical contractor on a commercial job.
A consistent 5.0 Google rating
Castles Electrical maintains a 5.0 rating across its Google reviews, built on clean work, fair pricing, and showing up when promised. The live review feed below pulls straight from Google. Reviewers repeatedly note the same things: on time, up to code, and priced exactly as quoted.
The authority for backup power and EV
As a Generac Authorized Dealer, Tesla Certified Installer, and NABCEP-certified contractor, Castles Electrical is genuinely positioned for the work homeowners here are asking for: standby generators, Tesla Powerwall battery backup, and EV chargers, all done by one certified team. Because Castles Electrical is listed in Tesla's Find an Electrician directory, Tesla owners can request the company directly for Wall Connector and Powerwall installs.
Quality over the cheapest price
Castles Electrical is not always the lowest bid, and that is on purpose. The lowest bidder often cannot give a job the time and materials it needs to last. We use quality materials and take the time to do it right the first time. Straightforward install pricing, quoted up front and honored for 30 days, means you know what you are paying before the work begins.
Coastal and waterfront expertise
Salt air, tidal flooding, and dock power are everyday realities in Virginia Beach. Castles Electrical does NEC 680 pool and spa and NEC 555 dock and boathouse work with salt-air-rated materials, the kind of coastal work most inland electricians cannot pass inspection on. From Bay Island to Sandbridge, waterfront homeowners rely on Castles Electrical for pool, spa, dock, and outdoor electrical systems that stand up to the coast.
Another company told Carmen the problem was inside the wall. She called Castles Electrical because they have thermal imaging. Castles Electrical found the real issue was just in an outlet, saving her from having to open up walls. In her words, honest to a fault, and she wished she had called first.
Real Customer Example | From a verified Google review (Carmen M., March 2026)
A dealership-contracted installer told Diana they could not install her EV charger without tearing out large sheets of drywall in three or four rooms because of the location of her breaker box. Wayne found a cleaner path and completed the installation without the demolition that the other installer insisted on.

What to Ask Any Electrician Before You Hire
These questions help you hire the right electrician in your area, whether or not you choose Castles Electrical. A good electrician will answer all seven without hesitation.
Are you licensed, and can I see the license number?
Virginia licenses electrical contractors. Ask for the number. Castles Electrical holds Master Electrician & Alternative Energy License #2710048784 and Class B Contractors License #2705166194.
Are you bonded and insured?
Confirm both. Castles Electrical is fully licensed, bonded, and insured for residential and commercial work.
Who will actually be doing the work in my home?
Franchise and chain electricians often subcontract the work out. At Castles Electrical, your job is completed by our own licensed electricians, and we tell you who to expect.
Do you pull permits?
Permitted work protects you at resale and insurance time. Castles Electrical pulls the permits when a job requires them and coordinates the inspection around your schedule.
Do you provide a written estimate, and will the price hold?
Get it in writing. Castles Electrical provides free install estimates, honors them for 30 days, and does not add hidden fees at the end.
Do you warranty your workmanship?
Ask whether the labor is warrantied separately from the manufacturer's product warranty. Castles Electrical warranties its workmanship in addition to the manufacturer's warranty on the equipment installed.
Do you have experience with my home's age and construction?
Our service area spans pre-1940 historic homes, 1960s-1980s tract housing with aging panels, and waterfront custom homes. We work across all of them, including aluminum and knob-and-tube remediation and coastal dock wiring.

Common Questions About Hiring Castles Electrical
+ How much does an electrical panel upgrade cost?
Panel pricing depends on your current service, the meter and service-entrance condition, and whether you are moving from 100 to 200 amps or replacing a fire-hazard panel. We give a firm written estimate once we have seen your panel, either from clear photos you send us or from a visit, and the quoted price is what you pay.
+ Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?
Our regular hours are Monday through Friday, 7 to 10, and Saturday, 7 to 7, closed Sunday. We also answer calls past closing, until around 10:00 PM. After that, leave a voicemail, and we will respond right away to a true emergency or call you back the next morning to schedule anything that can wait.
+ Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold a Virginia Master Electrician and Alternative Energy License (#2710048784) and a Class B Contractors License (#2705166194), and we are fully bonded and insured for residential and commercial work.
+ Do you charge for estimates?
Installation estimates are free, and EV charger phone quotes are free. Ask when you call.
+ Do you work on older and historic homes?
Yes. Our service area has a large stock of older homes, and we regularly handle aluminum-wiring remediation, knob-and-tube replacement, ungrounded outlet upgrades, and panel replacements in homes from the 1940s through the 1980s and earlier.
+ Do you offer financing?
We do not currently offer financing. We keep our install pricing straightforward and honor written estimates for 30 days.
+ Do you do commercial and multi-tenant work?
Yes. Our Class B Contractors license and 480-volt three-phase capability cover office and retail fit-outs, restaurant kitchens, warehouse and industrial work, and multi-tenant service upgrades.
+ What do your Generac, Tesla, and NABCEP certifications mean for me?
They mean the company installing your generator, EV charger, Powerwall, or battery system is factory-authorized and independently certified to do it correctly. Being a Tesla Certified Installer also lists Castles Electrical in Tesla's Find an Electrician directory, so Tesla owners can find us there.
+ Will my EV charger need a panel upgrade?
Often not. In most cases, we can install an EV charger on your existing service using load management, and we explain exactly how that works before we begin. If a panel upgrade is the better path, we will tell you and quote it up front.
+ Should I get a standby generator or a battery backup?
Both keep your home running through an outage. A Generac or Kohler standby generator is typically the lower-priced option and runs on natural gas or propane. A Tesla Powerwall is silent, clean, and can pair with existing solar, at a higher price point. We help you weigh the two for your home and budget.
+ My insurer flagged my electrical panel. What now?
Older Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels are documented fire hazards, and many insurers now require replacement at renewal. We inspect the panel, tell you honestly whether it needs replacing, and handle the upgrade and permit if it does.
+ How do I know if I need a panel upgrade or just a repair?
That is exactly the kind of call we would rather make in person than talk you into over the phone. Sometimes a tripping breaker is a single loose connection or a failing outlet, not a panel that needs replacing. We diagnose the real cause first and recommend the smallest fix that solves it.
